On rare occasions, I have witnessed five to six young male grouse traveling together. As they move it seems that the autumn woods moves with them, for their mixture of brown feathers blend in with the forest floor.
My title comes from sharing the same woods with grouse from Saskatchewan where they are called “thunder chickens” to the northeast, where New Englanders call them “pats”, - short for “pat-ridge”.
