Baby Steps
An adult hen turkey will generally lay a clutch of 11-15 eggs. The mortality rate is very high due to predation and hypothermia during nesting times of unusually cold and/or wet weather. This is a close-up study of a hen that I saw in the Adirondack Mountains. All but one of her eggs were eaten by raccoons, resulting in a lone surviving poult.
